Project : Macrophages and adipose tissue
The research project of the team concerns the characterization and roles of the stromal cells in the development of the adipose tissue and the obesity-associated pathologies. Our previous work have demonstrated :
Accumulation of macrophages in human adipose tissue with body mass index (Curat et al, Diabetes, 2004)
Specific cytokine profiles of macrophages isolated from distinct human fat mass location ( Curat et al, Diabetologia, 2006; Bourlier et al, Plos One, 2012)
Pro-angiogenic and anti-adipogenic (Bourlier et al, Circulation, 2008) as well as pro-fibrotic (Bourlier et al, Plos One, 2012) roles of human adipose tissue macrophages.
Altogether, our studies suggest that macrophages are involved in adipose tissue remodeling and could modulate adipose tissue metabolic capacities. Our projects are actually focused on the impact of aging-related process on human adipose tissue macrophages.
